Foaled in 1850 near present-day Lexington, Kentucky, the aptly-named Lexington was one of the most influential Thoroughbred racehorse sires of his time. He won six of his seven races and earned $456,600 (more than $2 million in today's money) on the track. After surviving the Civil War through clever moves and hideouts during crucial battles, he would persevere to become one of the sport's great sires - leading America's sire list for 14 consecutive years! Over 150 years later, many of racing's current stars can still trace their heritage back to this Kentucky legend.
